The Hotel Guanaja beach is more than 200 feet (60m) of beach, tended daily.
Most guests will not know that it has been a herculean effort on the part of William "Buddy" Thompson and the Hotel Guanaja staff to reclaim the beach after Hurricane Mitch in 1998. The hurricane damaged the reef and altered currents across Guanaja, resulting in critical loss of not only earth, but of a balanced ecosystem. Several carefully engineered seawall installations over several years has begun to restore not only the Hotel Guanaja shoreline, but neighboring shorelines.
The result is a stunning beach for everyone to share; enjoy your lounge chair, launch your kayak or paddle board, begin your run, or start you shore dive or snorkel expedition here.
